Statehood aside, the U.S. government had allowed the LDS Church only $50,000 worth of holdings, and had confiscated everything else, expecting the nearly bankrupt church to rent it back.  It had taken away the right to vote, and imprisoned many leaders, husbands and fathers.  It had imposed a requirement for wives to testify against their husbands.  The Lord revealed in vision to then prophet Wilford Woodruff, that even the temples would be shut down, and no men would be available to support their families or the Church should polygamy continue.]]></description>
