Hi Hannah~
Thanks for visiting our site and for coming to everyday, lay practicing Mormons, as you said, rather than others who may speak second-handedly or off-handedly about these or other issues of our faith. Latter-day Saints do essentially as you are doing --we stay clear of same-sex practices and unions, but we love those who are tendencied or struggling with same-sex attraction--as well as those who are deliberately choosing to live in consenting same-gender relationships. We can love individuals without agreeing with a lifestyle or principle. It seems that is what you are doing, while remaining an example of the divine order of relationships.

Baptism into the kingdom of God is an amazing door--it just opens up a world of possibility and growth in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Having the Spirit influence you as it does now will only be magnified a hundred then a thousand fold--it's like going from having a 50 watt bulb to having a laser of light at your disposal. God's presence and power, through the gift of the Holy Ghost conferred after baptism, is an incomprehensible gift. It's real. It's how we feel God's presence and direction in our lives, and overcome through the atoning power of Jesus Christ. Do you have any other questions about the faith itself or the process of baptism? Have you considered having representatives come over and talk with you through some of your questions, thoughts, feelings, wonderments as you consider this commitment? If you'd like, we could arrange that or an online chat, or you can visit lds.net for an interactive forum as well. Let us know how we can best support you in your spiritual journey!
