Why must we EARN our place in heaven by our WORKS if the grace of Christ is sufficient for our salvation?
Ephesians 2:8 says "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast".
I understand faith comes through believing that Jesus is "the way and the truth and the life" and that no one can come to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). I also understand that faith is an action in which we should live our lives obediently to the standards set out by God. However I don't believe that in doing these "good deeds" (our good works) will EARN our way to heaven (Ephesians 2:8). I don't believe this because the Bible clearly states that "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23) - all of us have broken God's commandments. Also that "there is no one righteous, not even one"(Romans 3:10)-
We cannot EARN our way to heaven by our WORKS because we are already sinners - but yes we should live our lives in obedience to God.
2 Corinthians 5:21 says "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" - we are only made righteous because of Christ (who is perfect and without sin) and not EARNING our righteousness by WORKS (because we are sinners and fall short to God's standards). Hebrews 7:25 says "Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them" - Jesus saves us completely and this is not by us EARNING our salvation through good WORKS.
By saying that we can EARN our way to heaven by our WORKS you're implying that the grace of Christ is insufficient(?). Please explain?
