Mormons did not change their day of worship to Sunday. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restoration of Christ's ancient church, and the restoration was directed by Christ through direct revelation and through heavenly messengers. Virtually all of the early members of the Church, which was established in the 1830's in northeastern America, were former Protestants, accustomed to Sunday worship. This tradition was continued, because no revelation deemed it necessary to change it. The Sabbath is every seventh day, and the days of the week are the machinations of men. Because the spirit of the law is what is important, it doesn't so much matter which day is the seventh day, as long as a Sabbath occurs once in a week. In keeping with the spirit of the law as well as the demands of culture, Mormons honor the Sabbath day on Saturdays in Israel and Fridays in Egypt.

How did the Mormons come to believe the Sabbath was honored on Sunday, the first day of the week? The Roman Catholic Church mandated under persecution that Sunday be kept holy to appease the pagan sun god worshippers. But the 7th Day of the week, Saturday is the Holy Sabbath as honored by Jesus and His Apostles and was continued even after Christ's crucifixon. What is the historical documentation for why Mormon's changed their Holy day of worship with our Creator to Sunday?

I am a "Mormon" and I loved reading this article and I just wanted to share my beliefs and add it to this testimony! I know that I am a child of God, I know that He loves and is aware of each of us, that the "Plan of Salvation truly is His design to help us progress and return to Him! A living apostle of the LDS Church, Jeffrey R. Holland put it so well when he said, " In whatever country you live, however young or inadequate you feel, or however aged or limited you see yourself as being, I testify you are individually loved of God, you are central to the meaning of His work, and you are cherished and prayed for by the presiding officers of His Church. The personal value, the sacred splendor of every one of you, is the very reason there is a plan for salvation and exaltation." If you are reading this today, if you are searching for answers or for hope, please know that you were lead here, the gospel of Jesus Christ offers a strength and a surety that can not be found anywhere else. It offers answers to questions that no one else has. I know this gospel is true, I know it because I have read the Book of Mormon, I have listened to the words of the modern prophets and apostles, and I have prayed. And my prayers HAVE been answered. I know it is true. I invite anyone reading my words today to try it for themself. The gospel of Christ is not a gospel of blind obedience. I have always been encouraged to gain a testimony for myself if the Book of Mormon is true and if the words of the prophets are true. I have asked God if they are and I have received answers. Do not be afraid to ask! God loves you and He WILL hear and he WILL answer your prayer.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not believe in polygamy, in the early years of the church they made it so if you practiced polygamy you would be excommunicated. There was a splinter group called the Reorganized Church also known as FLDS that broke off so as to continue practicing polygamy. We are not affiliated with them in any way and do not condone their actions. Unfortunately, they also have the nickname "Mormon" attached to them thus causing the common misconception that "Mormons" practice polygamy. Thank you for your question and for allowing us to straighten that out Emma! If you have any more questions we would love to answer them!

In reply to Billy White.

We believe that a person's soul is made up of their spirit in combination with their physical body. Thus they are not mutually exclusive. And you are entirely correct in your accounting of scripture however, we differ on our interpretations slightly. The Latter Day Saints believe that the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are each separate entities but they are one in will and purpose. The following link is what the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has officially said regarding the Godhead,

I hope this answers your question and if not we would love to hear more of your questions and answer them!
